As busier modern life it is getting, people resort to shortcuts to their everyday food requirements, the order in or wrap up parcels from fast-food restaurants or drive-thru. Even though this might sound ‘fast’, easy and convenient, it is not to be deemed as the right choice but rather the easiest choice which need not be always right. Fast food or junk food is produced, and it contains less nutritious ingredients, and it is high in fat and sodium. However, the taste tempts you to make it an everyday choice, and slowly you sink into addiction. That is a condition with risky and unpleasant consequences such as obesity, diabetes and even, at some point, depression. 

That is exactly why sweeping away fast food and replacing it with healthy and more nutritious food is the need of the hour. The obesity rates and other related condition rates have alarmingly gone up, even in the younger kids. The importance of a balanced diet hasn’t yet dawned upon us. It is the taste of fast food that allures in more and more consumers. The convenience and speed with which it can be served and eaten are undeniable. However, the cons outweigh the pros. 

Here is why healthy food should be your prime choice 

 It feeds your mind and enhances your activity. Quite put, it helps you stay physically and mentally active and alert throughout your day, thus increasing your overall productivity and boosting up your immune system and, more importantly, giving you the energy you need to conquer every single day.

Besides it gives you strength and making you very agile, it also keeps in check your blood sugar, shielding you from conditions like diabetes or related conditions.

Amidst the pandemic, the need to maintain a balanced and healthy diet is more important and crucial than ever. Boosting and setting a stable and strong immune system will help you do your share of combating the virus. 

What can I do?

When it comes to healthy food, it does not mean necessarily homemade food. 

Make sure to pitch in as many fruits and vegetables as you can daily. Tossing up a salad is something that you can do very easily and speedily. Bread, potatoes, pasta, milk and other dairy products, meat, eggs are all welcome. However, make sure that it is all balanced. Try to avoid drinks and food which are too high in fats and sugar. A healthy diet consisting of whole grains, proteins, lots and lots of fruits and vegetables is preferred, advised and highly recommended over other types of food which are too high in fat, oil or sugar.

It is imperative to get a chart of your current lifestyle, assess your calorie intake and sources, draw up a new chart with changes and healthy choices that will benefit you in the long run. Making the right food choice isn’t just a matter of pleasing your taste buds. And it’s more of a lifestyle choice that will enhance your brain activity, physical and mental health. Healthy food coupled with physical exercise is the need of the hour!
